Victim Of Columbus College Stabbing Seeks Mental Health Records

A man who was repeatedly stabbed during an attack in the lobby of a downtown Columbus college is seeking copies of the suspect's mental health records. Stabbing victim Jeffrey Maloon alleges in a court filing that mental health providers may have been negligent or even reckless by failing to commit suspect John Mallett before he came to Columbus last year. Last week's filing in Franklin County court says Mallett suffered from severe mental illness including schizophrenia, and was prone to violent outbursts. The filing also says Mallett was in and out of mental health facilities and jails until January of last year when he was placed on a Greyhound bus and sent to Columbus to stay with an aunt. Three other people were injured in the March 14 attack in the lobby of a Miami-Jacobs College office.
