Columbus Celebrates "Day Of The Dead" Holiday

The art-rich and thousands-years-old “Day of the Deadâ€? holiday is being celebrated tonight in Columbus. The November 1st holiday closely associated with Mexican culture celebrates the lives of the deceased, often featuring camp-outs in cemeteries and relatives preparing the favorite meals of the deceased. Jen Miller with the non-profit Global Gallery says tonight’s event will feature Mexican art, folk music, and the iconic Day of the Dead sugar skulls. “Just really beautifully and brightly-decorated skulls,â€? Miller says. “I really like this take when we think about death. It’s one that really kind of shows it’s a natural part of life and it is something g to celebrate.â€? Thursday night’s Clintonville event features live Latin folk music and several takes on the iconic Mexican sugar skulls. Doors open at the North High Street location at 5 p.m. with festivities ending at 9 p.m.
