If youâve ever had your car towed because you parked on private property or in a tow-away zone, it was not likely the most pleasant or cheap experience. Ohio law governs how much towing companies can charge to tow a vehicle and how much it can charge to store it each day. If you have a standard vehicle, it will cost about $102 to get it back. Heavier vehicles will cost more. But the law does not state whether companies can charge administrative fees or convenience fees. WOSU talked with attorney Fred Gittes who, along with other lawyers, has filed a class action lawsuit in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas against two Columbus-area towing companies: Shamrock Towing and Camcar. The suit claims towing companies are over-charging customers in fees. Click the "Listen to the Story" play button at the top of the page to hear the interview with Gittes. WOSU reached out to both Camcar Towing and Shamrock Towing. Camcar general manager Jordan Davis declined comment, saying he had no information on the lawsuit. Shamrockâs owner Tim Duffey referred us to his attorney who was unable to be reached for comment.
