President Barack Obama focused on higher education accessibility and affordability in this latest trip to Central Ohio. It was the presidentâs latest attempt to separate himself from Republican Mitt Romney. After stopping for a quick sandwich at the Ohio Union at Ohio Stateâ¦Â The president greeted supporters and returning students at Capital University in Bexley The president again criticized Mitt Romney for his support of Medicare cuts, and tax breaks for the wealthy..but on this Central Ohio college tour, Mr. Obama focused on what Capital Senior Candace Goers will face when she graduates -  $ 40,000 in student loan debt. â I try not to look at the statements that tell me how much I have to pay a month,â? said Goers Candace Goers expects to get a good paying nursing job and hopes to pay off the loan quicklyâ¦Â  The president said he and Michelle Obama landed good jobs after college and law school.. but still faced a mountain of debt âWe did not pay off our student loans until about 8 years ago,â? said the president. That was the presidentâs message. He, like Capital students in the audience, benefited from grants and subsidized student loans while he portrayed Mitt Romeny as being out of touch with the average college student . He criticized Romney for telling Ohio students to shop around to get the best college deal and to borrow from their parents to make tuition payments. âNot everyone has parents with Money to lend, â said President Obama. Obama touted his plans to make college more affordable including extending college tuition tax credits, capping loan payments at 10 percent of income and incentives to keep tuition low. Republicans are not buying the campus rhetoric..  they say the costs of in-state tuition at four year colleges have increased during the presidentâs term.. and the weak economy means new college graduates have fewer job opportunities.
