Ohio Regulators Deny Power Companies' Rate Waivers

Ohio regulators have rejected requests by two power companies seeking to withhold information on how new rates would affect customers. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio denied waiver requests Wednesday from Columbus-based AEP-Ohio and Akron-based FirstEnergy, and required both companies file additional information. The companies are updating rate schedules as they negotiate new electric security plans with the commission. The companies told commissioners they were trying to speed up the process. PUCO Chairman Todd Snitchler said in a statement it's imperative for commissioners to have access to data related to customer rates impacts and other costs. He said public interest is at stake. The companies have until May 2 to produce the requested information.
