EPA Expects No Lasting Effects From Springfield Fuel Fire

Officials at the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency say they expect no lasting environmental effects from a fire at a western Ohio fuel distributing company. Ohio EPA officials had said the water used to control Thursday's blaze had caused a runoff of oil and debris to flow into surrounding waterways. But an EPA spokeswoman tells the Springfield News-Sun there is no indication any oil got below the ground. Authorities say they believe a spark of static electricity started the blaze at R.D. Holder Oil Co., which supplies fuel, heating oil, and heavy lubricants. They say the fire ignited while a truck was being loaded Thursday morning, and it spread to a warehouse. More than 50 agencies responded to the scene. The blaze had created thick black smoke and 200-foot flames.
