A West Side high school will be closed the remainder of the week as investigators continue to try to find the cause of an airborne irritant. Westland High School will be closed for the rest of the week while environmental specialists continue to monitor for the source of a strong odor that sickened more than a dozen students and teachers this week. South-Western City Schools spokeswoman Sandy Nekoloff said long-term test results will not be available until later this week, but so far other analyses show no signs of an irritant in the building. âTesting to date has not yielded any positive results to indicate the presence of a hazard either chemical, environmental or system related. So all of our tests to date have come back negative. And weâre going to continue to systemically monitor and test the air quality and the building systems throughout the next couple of days," Nekoloff said. Nekoloff said the district hopes to resume classes on Tuesday following Presidents' Day. Fourteen students and staff members were treated at hospitals earlier this week for nausea and dizziness after a strong odor permeated parts of the school building.
