Area Catholic Group Embraces White House Contraception Revision

President Barack Obama, Friday, announced changes to a controversial requirement that religious employers cover contraception for their workers. WOSU reports a Columbus-area Catholic hospital group said it’s pleased with the president’s modifications. The White House announced it will not mandate religious employers to provide free birth control to employees. Instead, Mr. Obama’s new policy will require the insurance carrier to provide contraception free of charge, with no role from the religious employer. In an email to WOSU, Mount Carmel and its associates state they are very pleased with the changes which the health group says protects the religious liberties. The Catholic Church, which opposes contraception, assailed the policy this week asserting religious freedom.
