Election Law Opponents Still 9,500 Signatures Short

Ohio's top elections official says opponents of the state's new election law still don’t have the signatures needed to get a ballot repeal question before voters next fall. Among other changes, the law shortens Ohio’s early voting period. Opponents submitted more than 333,000 petition signatures in September, but Republican Secretary of State Jon Husted announced Monday that more than 100,000 of those were thrown out. Opponents need to submit about 9,500 valid voter signatures in order to get a referendum on next year’s fall ballot.
