Not Done Yet: More OSU Players Suspended

Just as Ohio State football fans were preparing for the NCAA to announce what punishment the school would receive for its memorabilia-for-tattoo scandal, OSU is announcing another round of rules violation. Athletic director Gene Smith says five players, including already-suspended receiver Devier Posey and running back Daniel Herron, were over-paid at summer jobs. "The violation involves excessive compensation. It's an employment violation regarding hours worked and hours paid," Smith says. Smith says the money came from booster Bobby DiGeronimo, who already admitted supplying gifts that led to three other player suspensions at the beginning of the season. This latest announcement means Herron, Posey, and offensive lineman Marcus Hall will have to sit out this weekend at Nebraska. Smith says defensive lineman Melvin Fellows and linebacker Etienne Sabino also received improper benefits. Fellows is sitting out this season because of a medical issue; Sabino has repaid the money he reportedly received and has been cleared by the NCAA.
