Ohio Lends Support Ahead of 'Irene'

Ohio is providing shelter and support as Hurricane Irene aims toward the East Coast hundreds of miles away. Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton is taking in military planes pulled out of the storm's expected path. Six twin-engine warplanes have arrived from North Carolina and dozens more aircraft are expected before tomorrow. American Red Cross chapters in Ohio are sending volunteers and gear to the East Coast. Ken Robinson of the Toledo chapter says an emergency response vehicle is heading to Maryland and volunteers are being asked about their availability. The state Emergency Management Agency says there are no weather concerns for Ohio related to Irene. AAA is cautioning Ohio travelers that the hurricane could cause widespread weekend flight delays.
