Bob Shamansky was a Columbus guy. He was born and raised in the suburbs of Bexley and attended Ohio State University before going off to Harvard Law School. He later served in the Armyâs Counter Intelligence Corps before returning home to practice law. He won a seat in Congress in 1980, but served just one term before losing to current Governor John Kasich. Bruce Campbell is an attorney for the Ohio Bar Association and was a long-time colleague. He says Shamansky was quirky but brilliant. âProbably the only guy Iâve ever met who read the Manchester Guardian for his newspaper of choice. Very brainy guy, very witty, tremendously interesting person," Campbell says. Campbell says he wasnât surprised when the Democrat Shamansky ran for Congress again in 2006 at the age of 79. Shamansky thought something needed done, Campbell says, so he did it. He lost that race to Republican Pat Tiberi. Robert Shamansky was 84 years old.
