Cooper Stadium Racetrack Clears Council

The proposal to turn the old Cooper Stadium baseball stadium into a racetrack and automotive center has taken another step forward. Columbus City Council last night voted to rezone the Mound Street property. The deal requires developers to install sound walls, and bans racing after 10 pm. Critics have said sound from racecars will bleed into nearby neighborhoods and nearby Greenlawn Cemetery. Developers say the $40 million project will create up to 300 jobs in the economically-troubled area just west of downtown.
