Columbus Police have identified the man who was found dead in a shed on the city's West Side Monday.
The family of 24-year-old Joshua Edwards was notified he was the man found dead and naked in a shed at the rear of a residence.
Columbus Police spokesman Rich Weiner said the division received a phone call from a woman claiming to be Edwards' girlfriend. The woman told police she last saw Edwards when they were in a car together.
"He was in a car and while in that car he exited the vehicle and left for reasons we're not sure about," Weiner said.
Weiner says he's not sure if the woman had reported him missing.
A resident in the neighborhood where Edwards' body was found had called police the previous night about a naked man who rang his doorbell asking to be let in. The resident described the man as having small scratches all over his body. Police searched the area but did not find Edwards.
A neighbor found the body Monday. Preliminary autopsy reports show he died from hypothermia.
Police say Edwards lived on the city's Far West Side. The woman who identified him recognized his unusual cross tattoo that was released in media reports.
