President Barack Obama is scheduled to arrive in Columbus this evening. It will mark his second visit to the city this summer. In June, Mr. Obama touted his economic recovery package during a visit to a road improvement project near Childre's Hospital. The president's arrival coincides with the release of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce's latest jobs report. WOSU's Tom Borgerding reports.
Chamber economist Bill Lafayette says the employment picture in Columbus and surrounding counties is "better than it looks." The region added 4-thousand jobs during the xsecond quarter including a lot of temporary jobs in professional and business services.
"As companies start to see increasing growth, as they start to make increasing sales what they'll do is they'll work their current employees harder then they will add temporary workers and then they will make those temporary employees permanent."
The chamber report says even with the addition of 4-thousand regional jobs during the second quarter, employment levels in Central Ohio remain below figures for the same period last year. Lafayette says area manufacturers and retailers might be poised for future job growth
