Penn National Gaming says it wants to build a $250,000,000 dollar casino on the city's west side. Company president Tim Wilmott told a news conference this morning that the company has entered an agreement to buy the former Delphi site on Georgesville Road. Penn National still needs statewide voter approval before it begins construction. Ohio voters approved a site in the Arena District when they changed the state constitution last November. But, Mayor Michael Coleman and others opposed siting the casino in the Arena District. In a news release this morning, Penn National says it prefers the Delphi site because of what it calls its "excellent highway access." The site is located adjacent to the Interstate 270-Interstate 70 interchange on the city's west side.
