The Ohio Parole Board is recommending against mercy for a condemned Ohio inmate who claims he's innocent in a killing that sent him to death row.
The board voted 6-0 Wednesday opposing clemency for Mark Brown, scheduled to die Feb. 4 for killing a Youngstown convenience store owner in 1994.
Thirty-seven-year-old Brown received the death sentence for fatally shooting Isam Salman, owner of Midway Market in Youngstown. Brown also received a life sentence for the fatal shooting of store clerk Hayder Al-Turk the same night.
The death sentence involved killing two or more people during the same crime. Brown admits shooting Salman but says he's innocent of killing Al-Turk.
The board's recommendation goes now to Gov. Ted Strickland. (Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
