Governor Names Shaker Heights Attorney to Run Lottery

Ohio Governor Ted Strickland Monday named 60 year old attorney Kathleen Burke to lead the Ohio Lottery Commission. Burke is a partner at the law firm of Jones Day in Cleveland.

Burke has been a corporate attorney for more than 30 years. In 1993, she became the first woman president of the Ohio State Bar Association. As lottery director, she would oversee implementation of slot machines at the state's seven race tracks. That plan approved by Strickland and lawmakers in July is currently on hold pending the outcome of legal action by groups opposed to the expansion of gambling in Ohio.

Burke's first day on the job is August 24th. Her salary will be $129,500 per year.
