Ohio Think Tank Launches Public Records Project

A conservative Ohio think tank has launched an initiative aimed at improving the availability of state and local government records online.

Through its new Center for Transparent and Accountable Government launched Monday, the Buckeye Institute will post state and local budgets, employee contracts, and public records policies.

A publicly editable web site, called a wiki, will allow citizen activists to post additional documents.

Center director Mike Maurer, a former journalist, said the effort will be accompanied by transparency pledges sent to every certified candidate on this fall's ballot. ----- On the Net: The Buckeye Institute: www.buckeyeinstitute.org
