Kroger and USDA Issue Recall for Ground Beef

The USDA late Wednesday issued a recall regarding ground beef sold by Kroger. In a release, the USDA says the Cincinnati-based Kroger Company is recalling an undetermined amount of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157-H7. The USDA says products included in the recall are all varieties and weights of ground beef products sold between May 21st and June 8th in Columbus and Toledo and in Michigan. The products include sell-by dates between 05/21/08 and 06/08/08. This is a Class 1 recall which carries the highest possible health risk. The USDA notes E. coli 0157-H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration and in severe cases kidney failure.
