The lawyer representing Linden teen accused of killing his twin brother appeared in juvenile court this morning. 18-year-old Derris Lewis faces delinquency murder and other charges. But today's hearing shed little light in details of the case.
18-year-old Derris Lewis faces several more weeks in juvenile detention. The probable cause hearing scheduled for this morning was continued until March 12.
Lewis was not in court again today as Judge Dana Preisse approved defense attorneys request to waive his appearance. Lewis's attorneys requested and were granted visitation rights for his 30-year-old sister, Diane Lewis. His mother is disabled and unable to make the trip to the jail.
Public defender Libby Hall asked the judge for a gag order. But Judge Preisse said she will have to take some time to consider it before making a decision.
Lewis was arrested Wednesday and charged with murdering his twin brother, Dennis. He faces juvenile charges of one count of aggravated murder, two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of kidnapping. Dennis was murdered while protecting his mother during robbery January 18 at their Loretta Avenue home.
