Petro says no to Congress, Lashutka also declines

A former Ohio attorney general and a former Columbus mayor decline to run for seat being vacated by Congresswoman Deborah Pryce.

Jim Petro says he prefers a job closer to home - on the Ohio Supreme Court. Petro says he will run for chief justice. He says he 33 years of legal experience and his work as an elected executive make him better suited for Chief Justice than legislator

Former Columbus Mayor Greg Lashutka says he also is not interested in running for Congress. Lashutka, currently a senior corporate vice president at Nationwide, says he never considered running but listened to Republicans who tried to recruit him.

Pryce, formerly the most powerful GOP woman in Congress, announced she would not run for a ninth term. She cited a young daughter entering kindergarten and a father with Alzheimer's Disease as two of the leading reasons why she would not remain in Congress.

Pryce narrowly defeated Franklin County Commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy in 2006. The announcement from Pryce that she will not run again has triggered a flurry of action from Democrats as well as Republicans over what might be one of the most highly sought-after House seats in the 2008 elections.
