Ohio high school students bound for college will have to take tougher math and science courses under a bill that has passed the Legislature. The plan calls for high school students to complete a demanding new core of liberal arts requirements to guarantee entry into the state's four-year public colleges and universities. A student still could earn a high school diploma without the college prep courses but would need to deliberately opt out of them.
Governor Taft pushed for the changes. He says students will master a more difficult curriculum that will get them ready for college or a good entry-level job.
