About 70-percent of the staff at Franklin County Children Services returned to their jobs Monday, following settlement of a nearly 3-week-long strike over health benefits. Agency Director John Saros says staff members went immediately to work getting caught up.
Saros says the largest gap in services during the strike was in case management, including the moving of young people from the county's detention home to agency custody.
Saros says the "detention home," located at the government center in downtown Columbus, is currently full. The Franklin County Juvenile Court sends young people determined to be in need of foster care or institutional treatment to the detention home to await transfer to the custody of Children Services. The agency then places the young people in foster care or in an institution for treatment.
