The board of the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) unanimously Tuesday defeated a resolution authorizing a tire processing plant to move into the city's southside.
SWACO Board Member and Franklin County Commissioner Dewey Stokes says there was insufficient information to prove the new plant was safe to the public.
Various southside community leaders rallied against converting the former trash burning plant to a tire recycling facility.
The owner of the California company that sought the permit says other Ohio cities have expressed an interest in the company.
