Voters in the Upper Arlington and Bexley school districts defeated tax issues, according to unofficial results.

Meanwhile, voters in Upper Arlington turned down by 51% to 49% a combined operating levy and bond issue that appeared on the ballot as 7.15 mills.

The issue would have cost the owner of a $500,000 home a little more than $1,250 per year, or about $105 per month.

The bond was to raise more than $273 million to replace a preschool and two middle schools. That included the historic Jones Middle School.

The district planned to turn the oldest part of the building into offices, while demolishing and rebuilding the rest.

Voters in the Bexley school district turned down by a 54% to 46% vote a 0.5% continuing income tax which would have brought the tax rate up from 0.75% to 1.25%, for operating expenses, and a 2.05-mill property tax for $29.25 million in bonds to pay for a new middle school and building renovations.

But voters in the South-Western City Schools District approved by a two-to-one margin a no-new-millage bond issue to build new Grove City and Westland high schools and make improvements at Central Crossing and Franklin Heights high schools.
