Great Lakes Today's report on fatalities related to unstable ice has been named "Outstanding Public Affair Series" in the New York State Broadcasters Association competition. ReportersAngelica A. Morrison and Veronica Volk produced theseries "Deadly Winter."

The two-part report highlighted an unusual number of deaths among snowmobilers and ice fisherman during the winter of 2017-2018.

The ice on many lakes across the Northeast and Great Lakes regions was unstable because of occasional warm spells that winter.
