As a continuation of the celebration of Women's History Month, acclaimed guitarist Xuefei Yang will be featured on the next Fretworks on Classical 101.

She was born in Beijing and is now a fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in London and travels widely, having performed in more than 40 countries at the world's most prestigious venues, including here in the Untied States, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York.

Xuefei Yang joined me in the studio when she was in Columbus a while back for a concert presented by the Columbus Guitar Society.

We'll hear how she started on the guitar as a child and went on to an international career playing an instrument that was not that well-regarded in China at the time.  She'll perform music of Agustin Barrios for us, and I'll have her recording of a Bach concerto made with the Elias String Quartet.

Also on the program this week, the International Mandolin Academy Orchestra, a group made up of musicians from Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Japan and Canada.  They'll play Samba di Mezzanotte, the final movement from the C.P.O. Rhapsody by contemporary composer Stefano Squarzina.

Guitarist Angel Romero has Sevilla from the Suite espanola by Spanish composer Isaac Albeniz, and Ricardo Gallen plays a set of variations by Mauro Giuliani, the great early 19th century Italian guitar virtuoso and composer.

Join me for Fretworks Saturday and Wednesday evenings at 7 on Classical 101.
