Composer Tom Vignieri, Chamber Music Connection's Deborah Price and Calidore Quartet musicians joined Jennifer Hambrick (center) Friday morning live on Classical 101.

The Classical 101 studio became Reunion Central Friday when the Calidore String Quartet, composer and former music director of NPR’s From the Top Tom Vignieri and Chamber Music Connection artistic director Deborah Price joined me for a performance and conversation live on Classical 101.

The artists gathered in Columbus last weekend for a performance by the Calidore Quartet Saturday afternoon at the Southern Theatre and featuring also musicians from Chamber Music Connection and the world premiere of Vignieri’s new work CumuloNimbus. the performance was presented by Chamber Music Columbus and marked reunions of every sort for the musicians involved.

Calidore Quartet first violinist and Columbus native Jeff Myers, an alumnus of Chamber Music Connection, met Vignieri years ago as a performer on From the Top. Myers and Price talk about the reunions that brought them all back to Columbus for last weekend’s concert - and throw in a little Buckeye spirit, too:

Saturday’s concert featured the world premiere of Tom Vignieri’s new work CumuloNimbus, funded by the Johnstone Fund for New Music. Tom Vignieri tells us all about how his second collaboration with Chamber Music Columbus came about:

The Calidore Quartet perform the second movement from Mendelssohn’s String Quartet, Op. 80, and Calidore second violinist Ryan Meehan tells us what inspired Mendelssohn’s music:

And here’s the Calidore Quartet’s Classical 101 performance of the second movement form Mozart’s String Quartet, K. 575, once again introduced by Ryan Meehan:

Jennifer Hambrick unites her extensive backgrounds in the arts and media and her deep roots in Columbus to bring inspiring music to central Ohio as Classical 101’s midday host. Jennifer performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago before earning a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
