Jason Vieaux Plays Bach Suite on Guitar on Fretworks

Jason Vieaux plays Johan Sebastian Bach's Lute Suite in E Minor in a transcription for guitar on the next Fretworks.

The Grammy-Award winning American guitarist recorded three of the Lute Suites for Azica Records in 2009, and you can hear his fine performance Saturday evening at 7 and Wednesday at 7 on Classical 101.

The Trio Concertando will perform a trio for guitar, violin, and cello by Antonio Ximanex, a Spanish composer active in Madrid in the late 18th and early 19th centuries,  and a new recording from Canadian guitarist Alan Rinehart features Four Pieces by Mexican composer Manuel Ponce.

Alison Stephens is the soloist with the London Mozart players for the Mandolin Concerto in G by Johann Nepomuk Hummel.  Haydn was one of Hummel's teachers in Vienna and he later enjoyed the esteem and friendship of Schubert, Chopin, and some ups and downs in the case of Beethoven.  Hummel's Trumpet Concerto in E flat is his best-known work today, but this mandolin concerto is an enjoyable piece from 1799.

The Alice Artzt Guitar Trio will conclude the next Fretworks with their arrangement of Tonight from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein.
