American Baritone Thomas Hampson will present a recital with pianist Wolfram Rieger called "War Cries and Lamentationsons" on Classical Showcase Friday evening at 7pm on Classical 101. It's part of the "Carnegie Hall Live" series recorded earlier this year in New York City.
A powerful recital from one of this country's preeminent baritones, "War Cries and Lamentations" presents stories of war and its effects from a wide range of composers from the late 19th century to our own time, including Richard Strauss, Gustav Mahler, Paul Hindemith, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Charles Ives and a world premier from Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon titled, Civil Words.
