TUTTI Festival at Denison University: This Week

TUTTI Festival performance in Swasey Chapel on the campus of Denison University.
Denison University

Columbus is certainly in the midst of a musical boom.

This week, Denison University is hosting an incredible lineup of composers, visual artists, dancers, creative writers, and even an ensemble in residence. More than 40 composers have descended upon the small university to perform and display nearly twenty concerts, talks, and installations around the campus over the course of just five days. This is TUTTI Festival.

You may have heard the ensemble ETHEL yesterday on Classical 101 with Jennifer Hambrick. They have taken up a residency at Denison which will include installation performances with Denison students and visual artist Mad Mohre.

The more I hear from ETHEL, the more I like. The group has collaborated for 10 years as the Ensemble-In-Residence at the Grand Canyon Music Festival’s Native American Composer’s Apprenticeship Project. Here is an example of the quartet playing a gorgeous work with the seamless addition of Robert Mirabal.

The festival is hosted by Professor of Music Ching-chu Hu whose compositions will also be presented in the final concert on Saturday evening, March 7 at 7pm in Swasey Chapel.

The list of composers and performers is certainly extensive. Learn more about the schedule of events and artists involved on Denison’s Events Page

To hear ETHEL and the work of professor and composer Ching-chu Hu, join me Saturday night for The Tutti Music Festival Concert VII featuring ETHEL and Ian Rosenbaum. The program includes works by composers Rob Smith, Mo Zhao, HyeKyung Lee, Mary Ellen Childs, Ching-chu Hu, Steven Snowden and Andy Akiho.
