"Herbei, o ihr Gläubigen," is German for "O Come All Ye Faithful." It's also the title of the upcoming Christmas Celebration featuring the longest active German Choir in North America. A Maennerchor or Damenchor is a type of musical social club that gained popularity with German-Americans in the United States in the 19th Century. The groups focus on German choral music and often enjoy German food, language, and culture together to provide Gemuetlichkeit and a sense of community for one another. The Columbus Maennerchor and Damenchor will be in concert Sunday, December 7 at 4pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 684 South Third Street, in the German Village. The concert will also feature the Columbus Kinderchor, Jugendchor, and St. Mary's Handbell Choir. Udo Maroscher of the Maennerchor and pianist Dr. Marc Heed will be featured soloists in the program which includes traditional carols as well as German Christmas favorites. Tickets are not required, all are welcome, and there will be a freewill donation collected to benefit the church. For further information contact the Maennerchor at www.maennerchor.com. Ich werde Sie dort zu sehen! Check out this feature on the Maennerchor from the Columbus Neighborhoods documentary on the German Village. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F11jvd9C3rU
