Classical Showcase at The Lucerne Festival Next Four Weeks

The next four Classical Showcase broadcasts Friday evenings at 7 pm on Classical 101, will feature performances from the 2014 Lucerne Festival near Lake Lucerne in Switzerland.  This annual event, founded in 1938, attracts many top-name  soloists and orchestras from around the world. This Friday's performance will showcase the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Chorus with alto Sara Mingardo in an all-Brahms program conducted by Andris Nelsons, the newly-designated music director of the Boston Symphony.  They'll perform Brahms' Serenade No. 2 in A, the Alto Rhapsody, and Symphony No. 2 in D. On the following Friday evening broadcast, we'll be hearing the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra with Daniel Barenboim conducting a program that will include two contemporary works and a concert performance of Act Two of Wagner's Tristan und Isolde with Peter Seiffert as Tristan, Waltraud Meir as Isolda, Ekaterina Gubanova as Brangane, and Rene Pape as King Marke. On October 24th, Mariss Jansons will lead the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam for a program of Brahms, Shostakovich, and Ravel.  On the 31st, Gustavo Dudamel conducts the Vienna Philharmonic in Beethoven and Dvorak. http://youtu.be/zaE9QJVDBso
