From Astor Piazzolla to Stanley Myers on the Next Fretworks

On the next Fretworks, we're seeing in the beginning of autumn with Astor Piazzolla's Otono Porteno, (Fall in Buenos Aires) from the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires.  It's an enjoyable arrangement too, featuring guitarist Jason Vieaux, Julien Labro playing the bandoneon, and A Far Cry Orchestra. At the other end of the program, the lovely Cavatina from The Deer Hunter by Stanley Myers. Guitarist John Williams and an orchestra perform this elegiac music from the Academy Award winning 1978 film.  Its music so beautiful and quietly nostalgic that once heard, it will never be forgotten. In between, The Brazilian Guitar Quartet performs Four Spanish Pieces by Manuel de Falla, and Angel Romero plays the Sonata giocosa of Joaquin Rodrigo.  Alexander Lagoya is the soloist for the best-known work of Alessandro Marcello, originally for the oboe as the solo instrument, here arranged for guitar and orchestra, the Concerto in D minor.  The Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields is conducted by Kenneth Sillito.
