Bela Fleck and the Brasil Guitar Duo on Fretworks

Five-string banjo player extraordinaire Bela Fleck will open the next Fretworks broadcast on Classical 101 with a virtuoso display of musical ability with his transcription of Niccolo Paganini's Moto Perpetuo.  This very fine eclectic artist, a master of many genres who moves seamlessly from bluegrass and folk, to classical, jazz and rock, will be accompanied on piano by Edgar Meyer, another innovative musician who is better-known for his virtuosity on the double-bass. The Brasil Guitar Duo will play music of the Italian-born Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, the Sonata Canonica from 1961.  They have performed with the Sao Paulo and Huston Symphony Orchestras and tour frequently in the United States.  They have been called one of the preeminent guitar duos of their generation. We'll also hear a guitar concerto by the Classical Era composer, Franz Joseph Haydn.  Well actually, its an arrangement made from the String Quartet, Op. 2, No. 2 by the soloist in this recording, Friedemann Wuttke, who performs it with the New Moscow Chamber Orchestra. Also on the program, Argentinian guitarist Victor Villadangos is back again with the Guitar Sonata No. 3 of Carlos Guastavino, and Scottish-born guitarist David Russell plays Les Barricades Misterieuses by Francois Couperin from Russell's all-baroque CD. http://youtu.be/9c2lkg0ms5Y http://youtu.be/ECkMI78tNbY
