Guitar Music for Twins on Next Fretworks

The world's largest annual gather of twins is happening this weekend in Twinsburg, Ohio, so why not have music for twin guitarists on Fretworks? This Saturday between 7 and 8 pm, we'll hear Astor Piazzolla's Tango Suite for two guitars with the Katona Twins. Hungarian born Peter and Zoltan Katona have performed together as a guitar duo around the world, including at Carnegie Hall in New York and at the BBC Proms in London. The recording I have is from a 2004 Channel Classics release that includes the only music the great Argentinian master of the tango wrote for two guitars. Also on the program, guitaristPepe Romero, who is now 70, will be featured in the Guitar Quintet No. 4 of Luigi Boccherini.  He'll be accompanied the the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Ensemble.  Milos Karadaglic plays the haunting flamenco-inspired Asturias by Isaac Albeniz, and Allen Krantz performs selections of the Sixteen Waltzes by Johannes Brahms, arranged for guitar. I also have Australian born guitarist John Williams in a recording he made some years ago as a tribute to his adopted hometown of London, England, "Echoes of London."  It contains some very lush and romantic orchestral arrangements of popular songs and we'll hear several of those, including London Pride by Noel Coward.
