It seems the viola and bassoon are the butt of most music jokes, but some have decided the oboe should not be spared. I must say that, having spent one forgettable school year playing oboe, (or should I say one school year playing forgettable oboe), I have an understanding of how difficult an instrument it is to play.  I also understand the occasional urge to use it for kindling.
