Edwaard Liang Talks About the BalletMet Season Finale

BalletMet Artistic Director Edwaard Liang was on Classical 101 Thursday with Boyce Lancaster talk about the season finale at the Capitol Theater, New Directions/New Works, choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon. There are two Columbus premieres and one world premiere on the program. The evening opens with Carousel (A Dance), choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon and set to music by Richard Rodgers.  Liang said it is a bouyant, effervescent work.

The evening continues with 18 + 1, choreographed by Gustavo Ramirez Sansano to music by Mambo king Perez Prado.  18 + 1 "celebrates the power and heat of music and movement."

The final piece is a World Premiere choreographed by Edwaard Liang...of Heaven & Earth.  About his piece, Liang says “This ballet is haunting, lushly romantic and heartbreaking—perfect for Rachmaninoff’s composition. It’s also very open-ended. I want the audience to find their own way through it,â€? Liang says. “There are many ways to interpret this work and it will hold different meanings for you, depending on your perspective. There’s no right or wrong way—it’s very individual.â€?

As BalletMet wraps up it's first season with their new Artistic Director, it appears Columbus has exciting things to look forward to!
