Atlanta Symphony Cellist Performs for NICU Babies

You might say the audience for a recent performance by an Atlanta Symphony Orchestra cellist was small. Very small. Cellist Jennifer Humphreys recently played in the hallway outside the neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU) at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital, aiming to send some of what she calls "the healing power of music" on a cloud of beautiful sound to the unit's tiny patients, according to My Fox Atlanta. The same report also said that two medical studies have shown that classical music can bring certain health benefits - including lower heart rates, calmer breathing, and better sleep - to NICU babies. Jennifer Hambrick unites her extensive backgrounds in the arts and media and her deep roots in Columbus to bring inspiring music to central Ohio as Classical 101’s midday host. Jennifer performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago before earning a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
