In the Key of 'D'anzmayr: Charles Ives' Musical Mashup

When it comes to Charles Ives' music, there seems to be no middle ground - you either love it or hate it.  If you are mathematically inclined, you may find it intriguing on many different levels.  In Putnam's Camp (above), there is layer after layer of seemingly unrelated rhythms, melodies, and meters...yet, they are there for a specific purpose. A second aspect of music by Ives is how it looks.  Take a moment to look up a page of his music on the web...some of it is visual art, as well as musical. ProMusica Chamber Orchestraopened this season with Three Places in New England by Ives.  You'll be able to hear it as part of the next ProMusica broadcast season this Fall. In my ongoing conversation with David Danzmayr, we discuss both how to listen to it - and what it takes to perform it.
