You might say the Portland Cello Cooperative had their audience at "c(h)ello." The Oregon-based performing group has since 2007 blended classical music with alt-indie, rock and other genres of music and taken their show on the road to places where cellos - and classical music - never dreamed they'd go. Formed by cellists who were seeking opportunities to sight read classics, the Portland Cello Project (PCP) has taken on a life of its own, bringing its unique, eclectic musical mix and collaborations with other types of performing artists to bars, live music venues, loading docks and other places cellos - and classical music - never dreamed they'd go, including, as PCP's Web site says, "to that punk rock club in the part of town your grandma warns you not to go to after dark." The concept has definitely caught on, to the point where PCP now enjoys a rolling schedule of sold-out concerts at venues around the country. So, what do you think, Columbus? Would you like to hear classical music blended with other genres here in central Ohio? Read more: The People's Cello (Anchorage Press)
