Columbus Symphony on Symphony @ 7 for Columbus Day

For this Columbus Day, this evening at 7pm on Classical 101 we will have our own Columbus Symphony Orchestra with Peter Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in E minor.  It was recorded in 2008 with former music director Junichi Hirokami and is a fine performance, too.  I hope you'll join us for that. For the remainder of the hour after the Tchaikovsky, we'll hear from pianist Earl Wild, a world-class artist who was a resident of the Columbus area for a number of years.  We have his 1965 recording of the Spellbound Concerto by Miklos Rozsa, written for the 1945 Alfred Hitchcock film "Spellbound," that starred Ingrid Bergman and Gregory Peck. Christopher Columbus may have been searching for a new route to India when he stumbled upon the West Indies so long ago, but I stumbled upon this video while looking for something interesting about our symphony orchestra.  Land, Ho!  Above is some local history featuring the Columbus Symphony in the early 1970's. And here's something much more recent, just from last week, in fact: http://youtu.be/oE5d50O076M Tune in for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra on Columbus Day here on Symphony @ 7 on Classical 101.
