The music director of the Minnesota Orchestra, Osmo Vanska, resigned on Tuesday amid the ongoing disputes between the orchestra and its management. Â For the whole story read the The New York Times. With Vamska at the helm, the Minnesota Orchestra has attained new heights of artistic distinction. Â The Finnish conductor is especially appreciated for his interpretations of Nordic music, including that of fellow countryman Jean Sibelius. Â Apparently, it was the cancellation of planned concerts at Carnegie Hall this season that drove him to his decision to resign. Â Music of Sibelius was to have been featured, and he was particularly looking forward to present his music with the orchestra. Fortunately for us, there are a number of fine recordings of maestro Vanska leading the Minnesota Orchestra, so his legacy with that group is assured.
