The American Sound Goes 'Bluegrassical' Saturday at 6pm

It is true that so-called "classical" music floated over to America by way of Europeans who brought it with them. When it got to our shores, some of it remained the same, and some of it took on other flavors - southern spice, western expansiveness and the folkish flair of America's country and mountain musics. Saturday at 6 pm on The American Sound, it's not classical, it's not bluegrass - it's Bluegrassical: a salute to American classical music's bluegrass roots. Join me for fiddle reels, a view of life in a mountain village with Copland's Appalachian Spring, Carol Barnett's Bluegrass Mass and more. Tune in Saturday at 6 pm when The American Sound goes Bluegrassical on Classical 101!

Jennifer Hambrick unites her extensive backgrounds in the arts and media and her deep roots in Columbus to bring inspiring music to central Ohio as Classical 101’s midday host. Jennifer performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago before earning a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
