Which is more fun, watching movies, or following the Oscars? Tough question. But one thing is certain: America is a movie nation. According to the Motion Picture Association of America, nearly one-third of global box office revenues in 2012 came from the U.S. and Canada, which also boast the largest number of movie screens in the world. And movies continue to attract more visitors in the U.S. and Canada than theme parks and major sports events combined. In short, we Americans love our movies - and our movie music. Join me Saturday at 6pm when The American Sound goes to the movies to celebrate a milestone for the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences - the organization that each year awards the coveted Academy Awards. We'll hear beautiful film music by some of America's best composers for the movies, and we'll celebrate the birthday of Irving Berlin, who wrote more than a few songs for the silver screen. Jennifer Hambrick unites her extensive backgrounds in the arts and media and her deep roots in Columbus to bring inspiring music to central Ohio as Classical 101’s midday host. Jennifer performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago before earning a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
