The American Sound Goes to the Movies Saturday at 6pm

Which is more fun, watching movies, or following the Oscars? Tough question. But one thing is certain: America is a movie nation. According to the Motion Picture Association of America, nearly one-third of global box office revenues in 2012 came from the U.S. and Canada, which also boast the largest number of movie screens in the world. And movies continue to attract more visitors in the U.S. and Canada than theme parks and major sports events combined. In short, we Americans love our movies - and our movie music. Join me Saturday at 6pm when The American Sound goes to the movies to celebrate a milestone for the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences - the organization that each year awards the coveted Academy Awards. We'll hear beautiful film music by some of America's best composers for the movies, and we'll celebrate the birthday of Irving Berlin, who wrote more than a few songs for the silver screen. We'll also hear music inspired by America's movie mecca - the great state of California. Hope you can meet me at the movies for The American Sound, Saturday at 6pm on Classical 101!
