This Saturday evening we continue our celebration of Black History Month by showcasing the distinctly African-American musical genres of ragtime, blues and jazz. All three genres took the world by storm and left an indelible mark on the American musical soundscape. Tune in Saturday at 6 pm for a special program of "Blues, Rags and All That Jazz" on The American Sound on Classical 101. We'll tap our toes to music by the master of ragtime, Scott Joplin, and we'll hear how Joplin's music inspired one of the great American composers of our day. We'll also hear music by French "classical" composers Darius Milhaud and Maurice Ravel from the days when ragtime, blues and jazz rang out from the music halls of Paris. And we'll enjoy one of Claude Debussy's best-loved pieces, inspired by the ragtime-era genre of the cakewalk. Jennifer Hambrick unites her extensive backgrounds in the arts and media and her deep roots in Columbus to bring inspiring music to central Ohio as Classical 101’s midday host. Jennifer performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago before earning a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
