âMusica Sacraâ? presents sacred music every Sunday night at 8pm on Classical 101. This Sunday celebrates Mozartâs birthday (born on January 27, 1756) with his Missa Solemnis, written in 1789 for the Archbishop of Salzburg, and following the Mozart, we commemorate Verdiâs death (died on January 27, 1901) with a new recording of his Requiem, written in 1874 in honor of Italian writer and patriot Alessandro Manzoni. 2013 also marks Verdi's centennial. The composer of Aida, Otello, La Traviata, Rigoletto and twenty other operatic megahits was born at Le Roncole, in the duchy of Parma on October 12, 1813. We'll celebrate Verdi later this year, presenting plenty of his operas Saturday afternoons on Classical 101.
