This weekend filled with local performances on Classical 101

If you're bemoaning the fact that you simply can't get to every holiday performance available in Central Ohio — fear not.  Classical 101 have you covered. You have two choices Friday night. Christopher Purdy is your host for a live broadcast of Handel's Messiah from St. Joseph's Cathedral in Columbus. The Cathedral Choir performs Handel's masterpiece accompanied by members of the Columbus Symphony at 7 pm on Classical 101. I'll be with you Saturday morning beginning at 8 am with great classical music, including many of your holiday favorites.  Beginning just after 11 am, you can hear Tchaikovsky's beloved Nutcracker with Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic — always a holiday favorite! The ProMusica Chamber Orchestra broadcast at 1 pm showcases it's Seasonal Surprises concert from last December.  Musica Celestis by Aaron Jay Kernis and a suite from Amahl and the Night Visitors by Gian Carlo Menotti are among the featured works.  ProMusica is holding it's second annual New Years Eve concert at the Southern Theatre at 8:30 pm. Continuing on Sunday, at 3:00 pm by Carols for Christmas, First Community Church's candlelight Christmas concert from 2011.  The FCC Chamber Singers and Chancel Choir are joined by members of the Columbus Symphony for Bach's Magnificat, along with many seasonal favorites. Ronald J. Jenkins conducts.
