A musicians' representative from the Minnesota Orchestra, whose concerts have been cancelled through Nov. 25 because of a labor dispute, has announced that the orchestra will perform its 2012-13 season opening night concert Oct. 18 as planned, and that its conductor laureate, Stanislaw Skrowacewski, will conduct, according to MinnPost. The Minnesota Orchestra musicians and management have been in a labor dispute for nearly six months over new musicians' contracts, management proposals for which have called for steep salary cuts, among other changes. The orchestra was locked out at midnight Sept. 30 after the musicians rejected the orchestra management's then-most recent offer. The Oct. 18 concert will take place at the Minneapolis Convention Center, while renovations to Minneapolis' Orchestra Hall are underway. The performance and its conductor have together been seen by some as symbolic. Skrowacewski's leading the concert has been viewed as a statement of support for the orchestra's musicians.
